Whale Watching and Wildlife Viewing
- Bring along a pair of binoculars whether you’re on water or on land.
- Visit the Marine Mammal Interpretation Centre (CIMM) before heading out on a whale-watching cruise and become an informed observer. What you learn about whales at the CIMM will prepare you for your offshore activity and upgrade your encounter with these mysterious animals.
Tide Tables
Knowing when is high tide is quite useful if you plan on hiking along the shore; it will help you avoid any surprises. This is particularly important when walking the beach from the village to Pointe Rouge. The tidal range can be in excess of four metres.

Plan ahead: wait times to embark on the ferry are variable depending on traffic and ridership, particularly during the peak summer season and on certain long weekends.
Wilderness Camping
Wilderness camping and tenting are not authorized outside of accredited locations. Camping or tenting in the dunes area and around the lake are prohibited, under penalty of fines.
Shuttle Service and Hiking Access Fees
Reserve a shuttle at the Youth Hostel if you plan on hiking the Fjord Trail from Cap-de-la-Boule.
Be sure to pay daily access fees when using the Fjord Trail.
Electric Vehicle Charging
A terminal is available to charge your electric vehicle at the Maison du Tourisme. It takes four hours to fully recharge.

Public Parking
- Upon exiting the ferry, on your right: free;
- Hourly and daily rates Jésuites Street, near the church and the dry dock;
- On Bord-de-l’Eau Street: $4 per hour (parking meter);
- On the wharf: $4 per hour (parking metre).
Picnic Areas
Picnic tables are available for visitors:
- Near the Maison du Tourisme;
- At the Trading Post;
- Along the beach;
- At the top of Anse à l’Eau hill;
- At the rest stop, on the top of the Bateau-Passeur Street hill (highway 138);
- Benches and picnic tables can also be found along the Pointe-de-l’îslet Trail.
- At the Maison des Dunes.
Public Washrooms
Public washrooms are situated:
- At the end of the parking lot on your right as you disembark from the ferry;
- At the Maison du Tourisme;
- In front of the Maison du Tourisme;
- Near the Trading Post;
- At the highway rest stop at the top of the hill off Bateau-Passeur Street (route 138).
Pet Dogs
Pet dogs must be leashed at all times in the village, including on the beach, along the rocks and at the dunes, under penalty fines.
Dogs are not allowed in the parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay, especially on the Fjord Trail, which is in the park.
